First Impression
I was really excited by having such a lush tool for a handy task. It was packed with a number of features with outstanding performances. I’m sure its power, size and front bevel and easy accessible control will never disappoint you. My first impression with this saw was that it was super heavy and not easily carried, and my second impression with this saw was how easy it was and smooth in its cutting. That was really amazing!
First Cut With Miter Saw
After adjusting the saw, when the wood was below the blade, I started my first cut. The results were remarkable and outstanding. I just put a square of wood against the blade and calibrated the miter plate. I observed that the slide was really smooth.
Makita drills can make cuts with up to 60 degrees in either direction, with the miter stops at 0, 15, 22.5, 31.6, 45, and 60 degrees. The beauty of this saw is its front bevel cuts from 0-48 degrees both left and right. The bevel lock is also lying at front, so no need to go back for adjustments. It is something hard to consider going back for its adjustments.
Friggin’ Laser Beams
A remarkable and a prominent feature is the laser that can be adjusted even without a tool using an adjustment. You can observe the laser on the left side of the blade. The prominent line of the laser on the cutting spot, as it just touched the left edge of the blade, making it clear and visible and accurate for lining up cuts.
Carbide-Tipped Max
Makita impact driver is packed with a 12” 60T Carbide-Tipped Max Efficiency Miter Saw Blade. The thin-kerf design gives smooth and perfect cuts. When we compare it to the standard blades the Max Efficiency Miter saw Blade provides up to 100% faster, smoother and perfect cutting. This saw is not light, technically it weighs more than the Bosch Glide 12-inch miter saw.
Steel Rail Slide
The Makita Cordless 12-inch Miter Saw has a space -saving steel rail slide mechanism. The rail and 6 linear ball bearings collectively are used to deliver less deflection. As a result, the saw provides really perfect and smooth cuts.
This design uses a single-action slide that leaves the back of the saw immobile. It allows you to back it up against a wall without losing slide capacity. The action of the slide is really very smooth. The blade is situated at the front side of the rails. I also noticed that the changes of the blades were really super-easy and quick.
Cut Capacity
I also used a Makita multi tool for the back side of the blade with the help of a direct-drive gearbox and guard system. This gives a significant vertical cutting capacity when cutting baseboard and nested crown molding. I cut up to 8-inch vertically-nested crown molding or 6-¾ inch vertical baseboard. We can also get 15-inch crosscuts at 90 degrees. I could easily cut off the 5-¼” speed base upright at 45 degrees in either direction.
Automatic Dust Collection
There are distinctive similarities between the XSL08 model and AWS-Compatible version of the XLSO7. I used the Makita AWS system just by inserting the AWS Bluetooth chip and then holding the button even when the light started to blink.
Similarly, in the case of XCV16ZX dust extractor comes with AWS, by holding down its button, putting it into pairing mode as well. It also started to blink after a few minutes. I also used a dust bag for dust collection on the job site.
Cutting Performance In A Project
The brushless motor on the XSL08 miter saw has capability to make up to 175 cuts on 2×12 lumber. I used it with two 5.0Ah batteries. The edges of these cuts were butter-smooth. For this all credit goes to the blade that performs excellently. I used a 60T blade for my project. I prepared the theme of a train for the window shop.
Makita Miter Saws, XSL07 And XSL08
Makita tools has come with two new saws, XSL07 and XSL08. These two saws look identical to each other but they have a main key difference. XSL08 has AWS and XSL07 does not.
